Abstract

This project aims to elucidate the diversity, abundance, and interactions of microbial communities in the rhizosphere of barley crops.Historically, rhizosphere studies have been carried out by extracting roots from the soil. The limitation with this approach is that majority of the rhizosphere (a soil zone surrounding plant roots, harboring a complex microbiome that significantly influences plant health ) structure is left behind. Here, we focus on developing a novel experimental system to characterise the rhizosphere and investigate its effect of nutrient cycling on soil.
