Abstract

This paper is a summary and evaluation of the English Independent Football Regulator within the newly proposed Football Governance Bill. This regulator has been introduced as a means to address systemic challenges in the governance and sustainability of English football. This paper explores whether such a regulatory body can effectively ensure long-term sustainability, competitive balance, and financial integrity within the sport. Key issues include financial mismanagement, increasing commercial interests, inequality between clubs, and governance failures. The study concludes that if properly implemented, an independent regulator could play a pivotal role in preserving the integrity and future of football in England, balancing commercial interests with the ethos of the game.
