Title

Holy Matrimony: The Existence and Public
Perception of Unconventional Marriages in India

Subject

History

Description

In India, marriage is more of a social as well as political
phenomenon rather than a legal one. In a truly traditional manner, a marriage is “the coming together” of two families, which is why societal perceptions are of great importance. The onus of upholding family honour is placed upon the couple getting married. What happens when they violate societal norms by marrying
"unconventionally? How do families, and people react to
"unconventional" marriages?
