Password: MaoriShakespeare01 <br /><br />Māori adaptations of Shakespeare's plays throw light on the shared ground between two distinct cultural and literary heritages. Funded by The University of Warwick, this archive places the theatrical tradition of Māori Shakespeare in its wider socio-historical context to demonstrate its significance, paying particular attention to how these performances speak to post-war and post-colonial iterations of Māori culture. Working with New Zealand based cultural and academic partners, this digital archive contains collated archival materials concerning Māori Shakespeare performances, and relevant individual and national accounts of the Māori community in the aftermath of the world wars and New Zealand's independence from Britain. This includes pre-existing, readily accessible digital resources placed alongside a critical account of how these materials speak to wider social, cultural, and historical concerns regarding the Māori use of canonical text. Short informal interviews with those knowledgeable in the field also contribute new material to the archive. The digital resource aims to assist future research efforts in this field of study and widening participation and interest in the academic study of cultural influences on adaptations of Shakespeare.</text>
