<text>There are many factors which impact language development during childhood, which can in turn have a long-term effect on language in adulthood. This study explored whether two factors (participants’ birth order position and being mono- or multilingual) have an impact on language. We achieved this by investigating the persistence of participants in a language task – specifically, the classification of real words and non-words – using response times. We concluded that neither birth order nor multilingualism led to significant differences in persistence, whereas for word type, response times for real words were significantly less than pseudo-words (which is common across word classification research). Interestingly, additional analyses did show a significant main effect of birth order when the specific number of languages participants spoke, and English as a first language, were considered alongside our factors. These exploratory findings led to future research possibilities – both in language development and language-based task persistence in psychology.

<text>This paper examines how central banks integrating sustainability initiatives into monetary policy affects macroeconomic stability. Using quarterly data for 184 countries from 2001 to 2024, we assess whether membership in the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS), as a proxy to show whether a central bank is sustainable, influences five macroeconomic variables: inflation, inflation volatility, GDP growth, GDP volatility, and unemployment. A series of pooled OLS and fixed effects regressions are used, while semi-structured interviews with central bank officials complement the quantitative analysis. The results indicate that NGFS membership is generally associated with greater macroeconomic stability in high-income economies, reflected in lower inflation, stronger growth, and reduced volatility. Interviewees from high- and middle-income countries agreed that their central banks did not recognise a trade-off between sustainability in central banking, and the effectiveness of monetary policy. However, regression results indicate that middle- and low-income countries experience trade-offs, possibly due to weaker institutional capacity and resource constraints.</text>

<text>Twelve years have passed since the United Nations (UN) gave authorization for a military intervention in Libya in the name of humanitarianism. Since then, there are growing concerns about the future of the doctrine of “Responsibility to Protect” (R2P). This article engages with the literature surrounding R2P and provides an analysis of the concept from a postcolonial and feminist perspective. Using both theories as well as securitization theory, it also examines the discourse strategies used by the UN to legitimize the use of force against Gaddafi´s government. Among the strategies examined, the oversimplification of the conflict, the antagonization of Gaddafi, and the rape-as-a-tool-of-war discourse will be analysed. The paper concludes that R2P is not the apolitical tool it is argued to be. Rather, as Libya demonstrated, R2P embodies the “us vs the other” dichotomy and is used to reproduce Western values and ideology through paternalistic and colonial discourses that justify external intervention by rendering local agents incapable of protecting themselves. Humanitarian discourses are then argued to reinforce cultural and gendered stereotypes based on essentialist notions, which leads to the neglect of women´s agency, the perpetuation of cultural stereotypes regarding non-western people, a division between positive and negative masculinity, and the marginalization of certain collectives.
