The inversion number inv(D) is the minimum number of inversions needed to obtain an acyclic oriented graph. We show that the dijoin conjecture of Bang-Jensen, da Silva and Havet, that inv( D 1 → D 2) = inv( D 1) + inv( D 2), is true in the case where inv( D 1) = 2 and inv( D 2) is even. We also characterise the cases inv( D 1) = 2 and inv( D 2) odd, for which the conjecture does and does not hold. We then go on to show a similar result for n-joins, in doing so we prove a conjecture of Alon, Powierski, Savery, Scott and Wilmer. Our proofs build on the idea of tournament minimum rank, introduced by Behague, Johnston, Morrison and Ogden.</text>

<text>Housing affordability is a key issue in British politics and around the world. One policy approach to address this problem is to expand the supply of housing through new development. However, new development can often generate controversy among existing residents. This research aims to better understand resident objections against new development. A methodology was developed to collect objections from publicly available planning applications. In total, 1975 objections across 82 major housing planning applications were collected, all in the Bradford region. The objections were categorised into 31 issues and subsequently analysed for patterns and themes using statistical techniques. There were three key findings: first, that environmental issues are most important for residents; second, a small number of applications cause the majority of objections; third, the affluence of a wards impacts engagement in the planning process.</text>

<text>This research investigates the impact of the CFA franc's fixed exchange rate regime on the export competitiveness of West African Economic and Monetary Union nations. While the CFA franc is recognized for fostering monetary stability and low inflation, there are ongoing concerns that it may lead to an overvaluation of real exchange rates, thereby hindering export expansion. The study contrasts the performance of WAEMU member states specifically Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Mali, and Burkina Faso with that of non-CFA West African countries, including Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. Particular attention is paid to crucial sectors such as agriculture and textiles, which are significant contributors to regional income and employment. The methodology employed involves a panel data analysis covering the period from 2010 to 2025. This analysis utilizes data on export volumes, real effective exchange rates, and key macroeconomic indicators sourced from databases like UN Comtrade, IMF DOTS, and the World Bank. The quantitative findings are supplemented by qualitative insights derived from interviews and policy reports. The results suggest that WAEMU countries have experienced slower export growth and diminished price competitiveness in comparison to their non-CFA counterparts. The CFA franc appears to have restricted the capacity of WAEMU exporters to adapt to external economic fluctuations, particularly within price-sensitive industries. Concurrently, the stability provided by the CFA franc continues to be valuable for maintaining low inflation rates and fostering investor confidence. The paper advocates for WAEMU policymakers to consider adopting greater exchange rate flexibility or an adjusted peg as part of the proposed Eco currency framework. It also emphasizes that any monetary policy adjustments should be complemented by reforms aimed at enhancing trade and infrastructure. Future research is recommended to incorporate firm-level data and to explore the prevalence of similar dynamics within the Central African Economic and Monetary Community zone.</text>

<text>Artificial intelligence has achieved impressive results in traditional board games such as Chess and Go, but modern board games have received less attention. These games can introduce additional challenges, such as random events and a wider range of possible moves, making them useful environments for studying AI behaviour in recreational game-playing contexts. This project examines how different AI approaches perform as they move from a small traditional game to the modern board game Azul, aiming to better understand their behaviours, strengths and limitations. This project combines background research with practical experimentation. Existing literature on game-playing AI informed the development of three Python agents: a search-based approach using Minimax, a simulation-based approach using Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS), and a learning-based approach using Tabular Q-Learning (TabQL). Each approach was first implemented for tic-tac-toe and then adapted to the complete two-player game of Azul. The agents were compared through head-to-head simulated matches. In tic-tac-toe matches, every game ended in a draw. In Azul, MCTS won more games than Minimax, while both won every reported match against TabQL. These results suggest that the approaches performed differently under the configurations tested, but the limited number of matches prevents broader conclusions about playing strength. TabQL’s weaker Azul results may reflect the difficulty of learning in a game with many possible states and moves. This research provides a foundation for applying AI techniques to a wider range of modern board games. Future work could investigate other reinforcement-learning methods, explore hybrid approaches, human-interaction studies, and applications in game design and decision-making contexts.</text>

<text>Synthetic CTs enable voxel-by-voxel mass density representation while reducing artefacts, a significant advancement for accurate dose calculations in adaptive radiotherapy. This study evaluates two synthetic algorithms—corrected CBCT (corrCBCT) and virtual CT (vCT) —against conventional CBCT with bulk density assignment. Analysing dosimetric outcomes in patients with varying anatomical changes, it was found that while the vCT offers improved mass density representation, there is no significant difference in dose distributions between the vCT and corrCBCT. The execution of hybrid registrations was critical, significantly impacting the anatomical accuracy of the vCT image. Despite differences in mass density representations between the vCT and corrCBCT, using a corrCBCT is recommended in adaptive radiotherapy to ensure current anatomical accuracy.</text>
