Title A name given to the resource Arts Academic Paper An academic paper Abstract The abstract of the paper This paper looks at the fictional writings of Dr Max Salzberg. Born into an orthodox Jewish community in present-day Lithuania in 1882, Salzberg moved to Germany for medical treatment when a young man. He survived the Holocaust in Hamburg, Germany in a "Mischehe" with his non-Jewish German wife, Frida Salzberg-Heins. Particularly during this time he wrote fictional stories about the culture and religion of his childhood. In my project, I considered these texts as places of both personal and “cultural” memory. On the personal level, the stories were Salzberg’s way to re-encounter his individual experiences. Furthermore, the stories acted as “cultural memory” by preserving Eastern European Jewish culture. This culture was almost rendered extinct in the Holocaust. Looking at the different contexts of his publications in Germany in Israel in the early post-war period, I discuss different national approaches to collective memory and the merit of the stories “mainstreamness” in the genres of “shtetl literature” and the “Zionist novel”. By integrating terrain parameters such as slope, topographic position index (TPI), and topographic wetness index (TWI) with ground motion data, a semi-supervised machine learning approach was developed to distinguish areas of thin and thick peat. Improved spatial understanding of peat depth supports carbon accounting, geohazard risk assessment, and infrastructure planning in peatland regions. This research demonstrates how remote sensing can deliver cost-effective, scalable, and data-driven solutions for climate resilience and environmental monitoring. Peatlands are vital carbon stores that regulate hydrology and mitigate climate change, yet over 80% of UK peat is degraded and emitting carbon. This study conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews with Chinese parents (n=7) who satisfied the recruitment criteria. The findings discovered that parents’ decision was mostly influenced by how they perceive the difference between national education and international education systems’ capacity to fulfil their expectation towards the return of education. While the parent participants generally value the socio-cultural capital potentially brought by the international schools, the high cost of international education was less considered. Parents’ responses reveal a great diversity in their decision-making process and ways of comparison.
