<text>This project asks whether the securitisation of UK economic security is driven by objective vulnerabilities in energy and trade, or by the use of security framing as a political strategy to advance contested agendas while limiting normal oversight. It tests the question by auditing six UK policy decisions taken since 2021 against the security criteria their own public justifications invoked. Energy security is measured through availability, affordability, diversity, reliability and resilience. Trade security is measured through market access, partner diversification, exposure to unilateral discretion and stability of terms, drawing on Hirschman and on Farrell and Newman’s work on weaponised interdependence. Five of the six policies fail their own test. The ban on Russian energy imports removed a small exposure but did nothing about the mechanism that passed the 2022 price shock on to British consumers. North Sea licensing is defended on security grounds by both its supporters and its opponents, yet neither position delivers the price security claimed. The UK holds roughly 12 days of gas storage, compared with 89 in Germany and 103 in France, and this drew no significant policy response. Meanwhile the United States now supplies 76% of UK LNG imports and takes 21.7% of UK exports, a concentration that has received almost no security scrutiny. The project concludes that security language in UK economic policy works mainly as a justification attached to decisions made on alliance, environmental or domestic political grounds. It proposes that any economic security claim be accompanied by a published assessment of the exposure it addresses.</text>

Through RNA sequencing analysis, this project inspects some of these differences in Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) positive Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) cultures, particularly demonstrating a downregulation in key regulators of the cell cycle such as the Anaphase Promoting Complex (APC/C) and Origin Recognition Complex (ORC) in the 3D models. This is evidence that 3D models are more representative of tumour microenvironments and therefore supports their use in pre clinical studies for improved downstream analysis. </text>

<text>This paper explores the politics that came to characterise urban governance in early nineteenth-century Cardiff and investigates how the Marquesses of Bute consolidated their near-absolute influence over, and control of, the local corporation. Centring on the industrious second Marquess, this study asks not simply how the noblemen exercised his aristocratic privileges, but also how they understood and presented their authority in the burgeoning town. Celebrated as the ‘Creator of Cardiff’ by his contemporaries, existing historiography has steadfastly attributed this epithet to the second Marquess and analysed the town’s truly unparalleled economic development. This has left the methods of how the aristocrat exercised his authority over his Glamorgan estate with comparatively little scholarly attention. Thwarting the election of his rivals, manipulating tenancy agreements, and casting himself as both father to his poorer tenants and patron of the Welsh language, the Marquess held his Glamorgan estate in his absolute power. Drawing on borough records, newspaper articles, and private correspondence, this study argues that Bute continued to assert and re-assert his authority to such an extent that neither the Reform Act in 1832 nor the Municipal Corporations Act in 1835 could interrupt his lordship over Cardiff with any real significance. Yet this ability to manipulate urban governance also exposes the archaic structure of the Cardiff Corporation, which left the political body arthritic, and this paper advances that this institutional weakness permitted the borough to become a Scottish thraldom.</text>
