<text>Abstract Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, heterogeneous autoimmune disease characterised by persistent synovial inflammation, progressive joint destruction, and associated pain, which typically manifests symmetrically in the peripheral joints (Uke et al., 2025; Misra, 2025). It is a progressive and debilitating condition, with considerable variation in clinical presentation among patients, often leading to severe functional impairment and a marked reduction in quality of life (Uke et al., 2025; Maeda et al., 2022). Globally, RA affects approximately 0.25–1% of the population, with prevalence varying across geographical regions and populations (Almutari et al., 2020; Di Matteo et al., 2023). Although the precise aetiology of RA remains unclear, oxidative stress has been identified as a key pathogenic mechanism. Elevated levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) contribute to synovial inflammation, joint destruction, and the development of systemic co-morbidities such as coronary artery disease (Wu et al., 2022). This has generated growing interest in the potential therapeutic role of antioxidants, which can scavenge ROS and mitigate oxidative damage (Jing et al., 2023). Among these, vitamin C has emerged as a particularly promising candidate due to its potent antioxidant properties and its role as a cofactor in numerous enzymatic processes regulating immune, vascular, metabolic, and neurological functions (Vollbracht & Kraft., 2022). Despite this theoretical potential, the precise impact of vitamin C on the activity and progression of RA remains uncertain. Evidence regarding its clinical utility in modulating disease mechanisms is still evolving. This literature review will critically evaluate the existing evidence on the relationship between vitamin C and RA, focusing on its prospective role in reducing disease activity and progression.</text>

<text>This research project explores a clinical trial assessing the safety and efficacy of a hybrid closed-loop insulin delivery system in children aged 2 to 6 years with type 1 diabetes (Wadwa et al., 2023). The primary aim was to estimate the effect of closed-loop control on 13-week HbA1c and investigate the robustness of this estimate to covariate adjustment, missing-data handling and Bayesian modelling. The analysis began with a complete-case comparison, followed by adjusted regression models, different frequentist methods of imputation and Bayesian approaches. The results consistently favoured closed-loop control over standard care, with adjusted treatment-effect estimates ranging from approximately 0.36 to 0.44 percentage points across the frequentist analyses. The Bayesian results were broadly consistent with these findings. A further exploratory aim was to model 26-week HbA1c outcomes during the trial's extension period using Bayesian longitudinal models. However, these results were associated with greater uncertainty, particularly because participants originally assigned to standard care switched to closed-loop treatment after 13 weeks. Overall, the findings provide reasonably consistent evidence that closed-loop control reduced 13-week HbA1c compared with standard care, while conclusions about the 26-week treatment effect remain more uncertain.</text>

<text>Assessing fossil record completeness requires researchers to manually extract detailed anatomical and specimen information from scientific literature, making large-scale studies time-consuming. This project develops PALEAN, an R-based workflow for automatically converting unstructured palaeontological literature into structured research data. The pipeline reads scientific papers using text extraction and OCR, cleans and searches the resulting text, identifies relevant taxonomic, anatomical, locality and specimen information, and exports structured tables for further analysis. The workflow was tested on three recent theropod dinosaur papers describing Aratasaurus museunacionali, Thanatotheristes degrootorum and Tralkasaurus cuyi. Preliminary manual verification shows that the pipeline can recover key taxonomic information, specimen identifiers, skeletal elements and formation-level locality information, although complex anatomical descriptions and some locality details still require manual review. The project demonstrates the potential for reproducible automated workflows to reduce the manual effort involved in fossil completeness data collection.</text>
